Yorkshire Autumn Graduate Recruitment Fair

British Heart Foundation

Exhibiting: Wednesday 4th November 2009

Our vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease. We will achieve this through pioneering medical research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.

1. Research. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) funds 29 departmental chairs of cardiology at teaching hospitals and universities throughout the UK. In addition the BHF is currently giving financial support to 1,200 independent research projects associated with heart and circulatory disease.
2. Education. Through our publications and campaigns we encourage people to take their heart health into their own hands. We produce numerous information booklets, videos, newsletters and posters - most of which are free of charge. We also run a confidential heart information line staffed by cardiac nurses who answer around 1,700 enquiries each month from heart patients and their families.
3. Care. After a heart attack or operation, quality care and support is vital to recovery. Roughly half of all existing cardiac rehabilitation programmes in the UK have been based on an initial grant from the BHF. We also fund specially-trained BHF nurses who provide support and advice to heart patients and their families.
4. Vital Medical Equipment. Every six minutes someone in the UK dies from a heart attack. The BHF helps to buy essential life-saving equipment like defibrillators for hospitals, ambulance services, GPs and organisations such as the police and fire services.
5. Fundraising. The BHF raises a significant amount of money both through a network of local volunteer branches plus a team of independent supporters each of whom has a specific role to fulfill.
