China Pathways

China Pathways is a UK Education and Training provider whose mission is to provide study opportunities in Beijing, China for students from UK Higher Education institutions. It was founded in 2007 by 3 individuals with many years experience of working in the UK Tertiary Education sector at senior management level.

Over the past year China Pathways has worked with several UK university careers departments to make students aware of the importance of adding a China experience to their CVs for both personal and professional development and to enhance future employability.

The China Pathways programme consists of an intensive Chinese language course in the mornings delivered at China Pathways main partner - the Beijing Language and Culture University – supplemented by a programme of practical business training combined with classes in Chinese culture.
Students are also enrolled as members of the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, whose facilities are used for the delivery of seminars by members of the local and expatriate business community.

Finally, there is an option of a 4 week work experience opportunity at the end of the programme. Students can then use their newly acquired skills and knowledge to take up job opportunities in China or use the experience in applying for jobs in the UK or elsewhere, with companies keen to establish or broaden their China operations.

Graduate Opportunities

The Programme:
Our China Pathways 4, 8 and 19 Week Programmes combine training in Chinese language, business and culture, with seminars at the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing delivered by members of the local and expatriate business community. There is also a one month work experience option in a local or multi national enterprise at the end of the programme and an integrated excursion programme.

As part of the 8 week programme, or at the end of the 19 week programme you will have the opportunity to work in a Beijing enterprise for 4 weeks. This is an optional part of the 19 week programme but one which has potential major benefits for future career prospects and CV building.

Language:
A professionally delivered language programme will enable you to study Chinese Language for 20 hours each week.
All four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening will be integrated into the course from the start of the programme but the emphasis at first will be on speaking so that you can begin to use Chinese with local people from day one. All our teachers of Mandarin are native speakers, all with a BA and many with Masters Degrees.

Student centred classes (maximum class size of 20) will enable participants to:
• Develop an understanding of spoken and written language
• Develop the ability to communicate effectively in Chinese in speech and writing
• Develop a knowledge of Chinese grammar and the ability to apply it

Culture:
This is organised in regular afternoon sessions and is designed to give students an awareness of contemporary business practice, as well as Chinese history and modern culture.

Business Seminars:
Unique to China Pathways, for each programme we arrange a series of seminars given by range of highly successful practitioners based in Beijing, from both the Chinese and the expatriate communities, which aims to provide expert insight into approaches to Communications and Business practice in China.

The seminar sessions are enhanced by the insightful personal stories of the speakers, together with pertinent observations and advice they can offer. The approach is relatively informal and is aimed at developing participants’ understanding of modern China.

The seminar programme also enables programme participants to gain access to invaluable work experience opportunities in and potentially beyond Beijing.

Work Experience:
Work experience is an ideal way to utilise the skills and knowledge gained during our 19 week programme and to considerably enhance your CV.
