It is made up of around 490,000 people working in more than 160 government departments and agencies. Civil servants are adminsitrators and policy makers, and are the people who deliver crucial services directly to the public. But they can also be economists, statisticians, researchers, scientists, engineers, HR professionals or experts in technology, to name a few. |

The Civil Service Fast Stream is an accelerated training and development graduate programme aimed at people who have the potential to become the future leaders of the Civil Service. It is ranked among the top five Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.

The Civil Service Summer Diversity Internship Programmes for black and ethnic minority and disabled students were established with the aim of providing high calibre undergraduates/graduates with a 6-9 weks stretching work placement within government departments.
