CERN

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. Its business is fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works. At CERN, the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments are used to study the basic constituents of matter — the fundamental particles. By studying what happens when these particles collide, physicists learn about the laws of Nature. The instruments used at CERN are particle accelerators and detectors. Accelerators boost beams of particles to high energies before they are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets. Detectors observe and record the results of these collisions.Founded in 1954, the CERN Laboratory sits astride the Franco–Swiss border near Geneva. It was one of Europe’s first joint ventures and now has 20 Member States.

Graduate Opportunities

100 Staff positions are available in a whole range of engineering and scientific areas! (Full-time)
Fellowships. Have you recently graduated from university or an advanced technical institute? Are you interested in working for one or two years in an international environment at the forefront of research? In which case, you may be interested in CERN’s Fellowship Programme. Within the Fellowship Programme, we are pleased to announce the introduction of a new Graduate Engineering Training (GET) scheme for engineering graduates who are looking for professional experience in a wide range of engineering and technical fields.

Undergraduate Opportunities

The Technical Student Programme is aimed at undergraduate students in applied physics, engineering or computing, to spend a training period of 4 to 12 months during the course of their studies.
The Doctoral Student Programme is aimed at postgraduate students preparing a doctoral thesis in applied physics, engineering or computing to spend between 12 to 36 months at CERN.
The CERN Summer Student Program offers undergraduate students of physics, computing and engineering a unique opportunity to join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at CERN. Students come for between 8 weeks (minimum stay) to 13 weeks (maximum stay).
