Fire Procedures

If you discover a fire, alert the organisers, close all doors and windows in the vicinity of the fire, and dial 4444 on a fire telephone or any internal telephone (0114 222 4444 external). If you hear the FIRE ALARM leave the building in an orderly manner by the nearest available fire exit, which will have red flashing lights over them.  

There are two assembly points:

  • The first is Under the WESTERN BANK FLYOVER if leaving via the main entrance doors or the first two corner exits working clockwise from the entrance.
  • The second is in the COVERED AREA BY THE EDUCATION BUILDING entrance (off Durham Road) if leaving via the three remaining corner exits.

The Ambulant disabled MUST use a corner exit in order to avoid the steps.  You must then await further instructions - it will either be safe to return or the remainder of the event is cancelled. ANY PERSON IN THE BUILDING, BUT NOT IN THE MAIN HALL, SHOULD ALSO LEAVE BY THE NEAREST AVAILABLE EXIT AND CONGREGATE AT AN ASSEMBLY POINT.
