The Sheffield Legal Fair has been running for over 20 years and is an established information and recruitment event in the University of Sheffield's calendar.

In 2012, the fair attracted 700 visitors and over 70 exhibitors.

We continue to grow and move with the legal industry and evolve the fair to meet students’ needs. In 2012, we implemented a new Sheffield Law area, which concentrated on practice areas of Criminal, Family, Employment and Human Rights Law drawing on local professionals to talk to students about work in these areas. This resulted in 85% of students who completed feedback at the fair rating the range of employers at the fair as good/very good. Also 100% of students asked, said they had achieved what they wanted to achieve by attending the fair. We intend to grow this area further this year.

In 2013, we will implement a new "in-house" area of the fair, providing students with an opportunity to research training contracts provided by those companies who run "in-house" schemes.

Visitors to the fair

The fair primarily draws its visitors from the University of Sheffield (74%); however, the fair continues to increase its attendance of students from neighbouring Universities such as Sheffield Hallam University, University of Leeds, University of Huddersfield and University of Nottingham.

During the fair students also have the opportunity to attend employer presentations and in 2012 these were attended by over 150 students. In 2012, we also implemented a presentation the week before the fair entitled "How to prepare for the fair" and was hosted by the Junior Lawyers Division.

The Venue

The Octagon Centre at the University of Sheffield is a purpose-built exhibition and conference centre at the heart of the University of Sheffield's campus, alongside the newly refurbished students' union.

In 2012, The Sheffield Legal Fair provided an even wider range of career options for students studying Law. In response to student feedback, the venue had dedicated areas for those wanting to research Law Firms, Publishers, Course Providers and alternative careers relating to Law.
